Where our prices come from
There is no national fuel price feed in Ireland. No government body, industry group or retailer publishes what each forecourt charges. Every price on this site was entered by a driver who filled up and told us — and that is the only way this information exists here at all.
It means a price is exactly as fresh as the last person who reported it. We would rather show you that plainly than pretend otherwise, so every price carries its age, and one that has gone stale is marked as stale instead of being quietly presented as today’s.
Does Ireland publish official fuel prices?
Not per station. Several EU countries — Germany, France, Spain and Austria among them — require forecourts to report their prices to a public database, which is why price apps there are live to the minute. Ireland has no such requirement and no such database. National averages are published periodically by bodies like the CSO and the European Commission, but nobody publishes what the station down the road is charging today.
So where does FuelFinder get its prices?
From drivers. Somebody fills up, sees the price on the pole, and enters it. That is the only mechanism by which this data can exist in Ireland, and it means a price is exactly as current as the last person who reported it.
Why do I sometimes see a price that is months old?
Because nobody has reported that station since. We show every price with its age and we do not dress an old reading up as a current one: anything over a fortnight is greyed, dated, and never marked as the cheapest option. An old reading still tells you a station is there and roughly where it sits, but it is a historical note, not today’s price.
How do I help?
Report the price the next time you fill up. It takes about twenty seconds, needs no account, and it is the entire reason anybody else can see a price at that station. If you spot one that is wrong, correcting it is faster than reporting it.
Help keep FuelFinder fresh
- FuelFinder is community-powered: fresh prices come from drivers.
- A missing or old price means nobody has reported one there recently.
- Sharing a price takes about 20 seconds — scan the price board and check what we read.
- Your price is then available to every other driver checking that station.
- Contributors earn Fuel Points — add your email when you submit.
